Mr. Mercedes rides the Stephen King wave to a second season
The crummy Dark Tower movie couldn’t stop the sudden onslaught of Stephen King adaptations, so the ones that have already been made might as well stick around as long as they can. The It sequel is officially in development, Hulu’s Castle Rock recently got a new trailer, and now AT&T’s Audience Network has renewed serial killer thriller Mr. Mercedes for a second season. This news comes just ahead of the first season finale, so it’s a particularly well-timed announcement.
The show, based on King’s book of the same name, stars Brendan Gleeson as a retired detective who secretly gets back in the game after being taunted by a killer—played by Harry Treadaway. In a pair of statements, series writer David E. Kelley referred to the crew as a “special team indeed” and series director Jack Bender noted how excited he is to continue to “bring these flawed, complex, colorful characters to life.”
