Natalie Portman isn't sure if she's the hunted or the hunter in first Annihilation teaser

Alex Garland’s follow-up to 2015's Ex Machina is another sci-fi project, this time an adaptation of Jeff VanDerMeer’s Nebula-winning novel Annihilation. The writer-director has teamed up with Oscar Isaac again, who’s mostly out of commission in this first teaser for the film. Natalie Portman plays Lena, the character known only as the Biologist in the book. The trailer flashes back and forward in time, showing us her relationship with Isaac, who plays her husband who is mysteriously injured on an expedition one day.

To better understand what happened to him and what’s going on around them, Lena heads into an environmental disaster zone, accompanied by Tessa Thompson as the Surveyor, Gina Rodriguez as Anya, the Anthropologist, and Jennifer Jason Leigh as the Psychologist. There’s no dance number, but there are plenty of dazzling and foreboding sights, including an incandescent barrier, vicious plant life, and some unseen threat.

Prepare for Annihilation on February 23, 2018.
