Nelly has reportedly been arrested on rape charges

TMZ reports that rapper and R&B singer Nelly has been arrested on charges of rape, after an incident that allegedly occurred on his tour bus early Saturday morning. The singer is currently touring with Florida Georgia Line in Washington, and was arrested this morning by police on charges of second-degree rape. According to TMZ, which cited an unnamed law enforcement source, the victim specifically named Nelly as the person who committed the alleged assault.

Update: A lawyer representing Nelly has issued a statement, refuting the accusations:

Nelly is the victim of a completely fabricated allegation. Our initial investigation, clearly establishes the allegation is devoid of credibility and is motivated by greed and vindictiveness. I am confident, once the scurrilous accusation is thoroughly investigated, there will be no charges. Nelly is prepared to pursue all all legal avenues to redress any damage caused by this clearly false allegation.

Update: According to USA Today, Nelly has been released from police custody without being formally charged. He tweeted the following this afternoon:
