Open-world action game Just Cause 3 announced for no particular reason

Today, Avalanche Studios announced the long-awaited sequel Just Cause 3, a follow-up to one of the most pleasant surprises of the previous console generation. Just Cause 2 was a seemingly endless playground of silly destruction—a game that ostensibly asked you to thwart a nuclear plot in a remote island nation but, in practice, was mostly an excuse to fly around the tropics with a parachute-glider thing and harass evil troops by blowing up their stuff. It was hardly the first game to exult in wanton mayhem, but Just Cause 2 didn’t take itself too seriously, and it moved like a dream. (I still haven’t played another game that matches the airborne maneuverability and sensation of weightlessness that Just Cause 2 achieves with its parachute gizmo.)

The announcement was accompanied by the “coverage trailer” above, which is mostly a coy plug for GameInformer’s upcoming Just Cause 3 articles and is terrible as a result, but who cares? Just Cause 3 has been confirmed, and this is highly promising news. The game is slated for release in 2015 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
