Oprah, George and Amal Clooney, and more each give $500,000 to March For Our Lives

Over the weekend, five teenagers who survived the recent shooting in Parkland, Florida, announced March For Our Lives, an organized demonstration in Washington, D.C. that will try and convince lawmakers to get off their NRA-controlled asses and actually do something about gun violence before more people are murdered at a school or a music festival. Today, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter, George and Amal Clooney announced that they will be donating $500,000 to March For Our Lives, with the two of them noting in a statement that “our children’s lives depend on it.”

After the Clooneys announced their donation, movie producer Jeffrey Katzenberg and his wife announced that they would be matching their $500,000 donation, with Oprah Winfrey taking to Twitter to say the same thing:

Steven Spielberg and Kate Capshaw are also matching the various $500,000 donations, saying in a statement that the “confidence and maturity” of these teenagers “belies their ages,” and that they’re “an inspiration to us all.”

The March For Our Lives demonstration will be held on March 24.
