We found ourselves pleasantly surprised by last summer’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, with the Seth Rogen-produced (and co-written) animated film blending visuals that were clearly indebted to Sony’s Spider-Verse movies with a version of the classic comic book characters that were wise-cracking, insecure, and extremely funny. Now, this particular version of everyone’s favorite adolescent reptiles is getting another go-around, with Paramount+ showing off a teaser for its upcoming series Tales Of The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles earlier today.

The biggest difference between the film and the show will be immediately obvious: The transition from the 3D animated style of the cinematic offering in favor of a 2D look that’s actually pretty appealingly sketchy. (It’s easily, to our eye, the best looking of the many Turtles TV shows that have hit the airwaves over the last 30-plus years, neither too beholden to retro imagery, or instantly dated the way some of the old 3D installments were.) We also get a quick reminder of how fun Micah Abbey, Shamon Brown Jr., Nicolas Cantu and Brady Noon were as these versions of the character, who are deeply awkward after an entire childhood spent skulking in the sewers, admiring humanity from afar. (Meanwhile, no traces of co-star Ayo Edibiri as April O’Neil in this quick teaser, but she’s confirmed to star in the show; more casting notices are apparently set to come.)

The upshot of all this is we’re pretty excited to see more of these versions of the characters, going to high school, fighting more mutants, and generally flop-sweating and ninja kicking their way through their lives. We’ll know more about Tales Of The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles as its Summer 2024 release date approaches.
