Pokémon Go creators' next game will have you chasing Harry Potter stuff

Niantic, the tech company behind Pokémon Go, are moving away from the world of pocket monsters and into the wizarding world of Harry Potter. The developer announced today that, in partnership with Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, its next augmented-reality game will be called Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, and from the sounds of it, it’ll probably have a lot in common with last year’s critter-catching phenomenon. It makes use of the same technology that powered Pokémon Go, which turned the streets and locations around players into a part of the game. This time, though, you won’t be exploring your neighborhood looking for Pikachus. Instead, according to the announcement, you’ll “learn and cast spells, discover mysterious artifacts, and encounter legendary beasts and iconic characters,” all while staring at your phone and hopefully not wandering into traffic.

No release date or further specifics about the game were announced. Warner Bros. promises more information will be coming in 2018 and is directing anyone who might want to find out more toward the game’s barebones website, where they can sign up for updates.
