Reed Morano met with Lucasfilm's Kathleen Kennedy for some secret reason
According to The Hollywood Reporter, The Handmaid’s Tale and I Think We’re Alone Now director Reed Morano recently met with Lucasfilm head Kathleen Kennedy, but she can’t really say what they talked about. Apparently, Kennedy had been watching The Handmaid’s Tale with her daughter, and after being impressed by Morano’s work, she called around and managed to set up a meeting. Morano says they talked about “adventure movies,” noting that it didn’t even occur to her that Kennedy had produced Goonies. “Any movie that I put my finger on that I loved when I was growing up was a movie that she produced,” Morano said.
That certainly sounds like it was a good time, but the two of them supposedly spoke for two and a half hours and that Goonies chat only could’ve taken up so much time. So what else did they discuss? Well, it’s hard to say and it would probably be irresponsible to make a wild guess, but it was definitely Star Wars. You don’t meet with Kathleen Kennedy after impressing her with your work on a critically acclaimed Hulu drama and not talk about Star Wars. They definitely talked about Star Wars, wven if it was just to say “I saw those new Star Wars movies,” so the fact that Morano didn’t say “we talked about Star Wars” seems like a massive hint.
The reason that this matters is that Morano is a director, and none of the Star Wars movies have been directed by women. J.J. Abrams is already locked in for Episode IX and The Last Jedi’s Rian Johnson has already been handed his own trilogy, so this could be a tease toward some yet-unknown corner of the Star Wars movie world. Or maybe Morano didn’t want to talk about Star Wars at all, and instead they discussed some other hot Lucasfilm property like Strange Magic.
