Ricky Gervais admits he's better than Jesus in the trailer for his new Netflix special

Ricky Gervais always seems like he’s a little full of himself, a quality that he smartly plays up for his jerky characters on shows like The Office or Extras, but in real life he usually tries to be a bit more endearing. In this trailer for Humanity, Gervais’ upcoming Netflix special, he’s fully in “I’m a jerk but you like that about me” mode, starting things off by telling the audience to “shut the fuck up” before giving a huge grim. He also mentions that he’s not a fan of humanity, so he’s not sure why he made that the name of his special, and he compares himself to Jesus but says that he’s “better” because he “actually turned up.”

It’s the sort of shtick that would be smarmy and annoying coming from pretty much anyone else, but assuming you like Gervais, it’s at least entertainingly smarmy.
