Evan Ellingson, a former child actor best known for his role as one of the siblings in My Sister’s Keeper, has died, according to Deadline. He was 35 years old.

Ellingson was found dead in a home in Fontana, California, the San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner’s office confirmed. His cause of death is yet unknown. TMZ first broke the news; the outlet spoke with Ellingson’s father, who revealed that Ellingson had been staying at a sober living home after struggling with drug and alcohol addiction. Ellingson reportedly had been “doing better” and “his sudden passing comes as a complete shock to the family.”

Ellingson hadn’t appeared on screen in more than a decade before his death. He began his career in 2001 at just 13 years old, appearing in shows like General Hospital and the short-lived series Titus. He worked steadily throughout the early 2000s, with recurring roles on Complete Savages and on 24 as the nephew of Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland). He appeared in Clint Eastwood’s Letters From Iwo Jima and starred alongside Cameron Diaz and Abigail Breslin in My Sister’s Keeper, directed by Nick Cassavetes. His final role on television was a recurring character on CSI: Miami, Kyle Harmon, the son of protagonist Horatio Cane (David Caruso).

Promoting his role on CSI: Miami back in 2009, Ellingson told The Philippine Star (via People), “I never had the same [childhood] experience with my friends. I never had more time with them. However, my childhood was a cool one. I was busy doing the things I love.” He added, “I had no regrets because I found my passion for acting early on.”

According to The Wrap, Ellingson is survived by his father Michael and his three brothers.
