Scooby-Doo's Velma and Daphne are getting their own live-action movie
In what seems like a major alteration to the established continuity of the Scooby-Doo universe (a.k.a. The Scooby-Dooby-Dooniverse), Deadline is reporting that Warner Bros. and Blue Ribbon Content are developing a live-action prequel movie about Daphne and Velma, suggesting that they met up and became crime-solvers long before meeting up with the preppy dude and the stoner guy who thinks his dog can talk. Appropriately titled Daphne And Velma, the movie comes from Ashley and Jennifer Tisdale’s Blondie Girl Productions and will star Sarah Jeffery and Sarah Gilman as Daphne and Velma (respectively).
The plot involves “bright and optimistic Daphne” and “whip-smart and analytical Velma” becoming best friends online before ever meeting in person, but when Daphne transfers to Velma’s high-tech high school, the two stumble upon a mystery that involves the school’s smartest students disappearing and later returning as zombies. Deadline also mentions that the school is funded by a tech billionaire named Tobias Bloom, which means he’s definitely turning the kids into zombies, possibly by sucking out their brains and using them to make himself smarter.
At this early stage, there’s no word on if Velma will lose her glasses at some point and discover that she definitely cannot see without them, but the movie will hopefully provide some kind of origin for that classic Scooby-Doo gag.
