Snowpiercer show starts picking up steam, chugging along, and other things trains do

Good news for people who like bugs mashed into delicious jelly bars: The Hollywood Reporter says that TNT has given a series order to Josh Friedman’s TV adaptation of Bong Joon-Ho’s Snowpiercer. Neither a premiere date nor episode count have been announced yet, but we do know that Snowpiercer will at least air as a TV show at some point in the future for some unknown length of time. Really, though, it wouldn’t be very faithful to the Snowpiercer universe if all of us in the back of the train were given too much information about what’s really going on.

The original starred Chris Evans as a guy on a futuristic train that was protecting the last survivors of humanity from an ice-ravaged Earth. There was also some subtle commentary about classism that you really had to keep an eye out for. The TV version will star Daveed Diggs from Hamilton alongside Jennifer Connelly, and while we don’t know much about how it’ll differ from the movie, a statement from TNT’s executive vice president of original programming says that it will “examine issues of race, class, gender, and natural resources” while “embarking on a wild, action-filled ride.”
