Spike blows away The Mist

Reminding us that not every Stephen King adaptation is going to be a record-shattering success story—we’re looking at you, The Mangler—Variety reports that Spike is allowing its TV adaptation of King’s The Mist to gently waft away. The series is being canceled after its first season, just as the network attempts a major rebranding into “The Paramount Network.”

Starring Morgan Spector and Alyssa Sutherland, the series adapted King’s classic tale of small-town folks haunted and harried by their own paranoia (and also a horde of evil alien monsters lurking in the titular pea soup). Sadly for fans of fog-based entertainment, though, viewers couldn’t bring themselves to investigate the show’s mist-eries, and critics were quick to label it little more than an ill-conceived whiff.
