Pedro Pascal may not have gotten his Golden Globe for The Last Of Us (“suck it, Pedro!”), but he might be the proud owner of something even weightier in the near future: a big bundle of Disney money, as well as the hopes and dreams of an entire fandom. Luckily, he has some experience in both of those realms.

Today, Lucasfilm announced that Pascal’s helmeted bounty hunter and his criminally adorable little alien child will be making their big screen debut in The Mandalorian & Grogu, set to begin production later this year. Jon Favreau, who created the original Mandalorian series for Disney+ in 2019, will direct, with Kathleen Kennedy and Dave Filoni from Lucasfilm producing.

“I have loved telling stories set in the rich world that George Lucas created,” Favreau said in a statement (via a Disney press release). “The prospect of bringing the Mandalorian and his apprentice Grogu to the big screen is extremely exciting.”

Technically Pascal’s participation hasn’t been confirmed yet, but it would be hard to imagine anyone else stepping into Din Djarin’s boots, even if his face is covered 99% of the time. It’s currently unclear how this particular adventure will fit into the larger Mandalorian story, but it certainly won’t be replacing the hit series. In a February 2023 interview with Total Film, Favreau confirmed that the show’s fourth season has already been penned, and the series would go on forever if he had his druthers.

The Mandalorian & Grogu will be the first official Star Wars film since 2019's middling The Rise Of Skywalker, which for a second looked to be the last feature-length offering in the extended universe. There are allegedly a number of other Star Wars films in the pipeline—including one from Taika Waititi and another focused on Daisy Ridley’s character, Rey—but Disney has continually sidelined these projects in favor of successful spin offs like Ahsoka and Andor.

Disney and Lucasfilm have not announced a date for the new film yet, but according to The Hollywood Reporter, they do have a slot for an “untitled Star Wars feature” booked on December 19, 2025.
