Steven Soderbergh reportedly shot his next movie on his iPhone

Now that he’s officially un-retired from filmmaking, Steven Soderbergh looks to be getting right back to the weird experimentation that’s marked so much of his career, with Deadline noting that the Logan Lucky director is getting set to release a new thriller that he recorded entirely on his iPhone.

Titled Unsane, the film stars Claire Foy as a woman who voluntarily commits herself to a mental institution in order to confront her greatest fear. We can imagine that being pretty claustrophobic, especially if it’s being filmed on a tiny smartphone camera, a la 2015's much-celebrated Tangerine.

Soderbergh is releasing Unsane under his own Bleecker Street banner. Co-starring Joshua Leonard, Jay Pharaoh, Juno Temple, Aimee Mullins, and Amy Irving, the film is set for a March 23 release, unless Soderbergh accidentally drops it, in which case we’ll presumably have to wait for the Apple Store guys to finish replacing the screen before we can check it out.
