Syfy picks up Happy! for a second season
It looks like Syfy is having a good time with Christopher Meloni’s mad quest for crazy justice alongside his imaginary friend Patton Oswalt the unicorn, as the network has renewed Happy! for a second season just ahead of its first season finale later this week. This comes from Deadline, which says the show has been a “breakout hit” for Syfy and that it broke the network’s record for most-watch series premiere—though the previous record-holder was The Magicians, which just premiered in 2016. Happy!’s premiere got 1.7 million viewers, with 779,000 of them coming in the all-important 18-49 demographic.
The show, based on a comic of the same name by Grant Morrison and Darick Robertson, stars Meloni as a former cop who is now a drunken hitman that can see an imaginary blue horse (voiced by Oswalt). In a statement, NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment exec Chris McCumber teased that the next season will be even crazier than the first—naturally, since it’s not like the show about the unhinged cop and the imaginary horse is going to slow things down for its second season.
