Taika Waititi is working on a U.S. TV version of What We Do In The Shadows
One of the many reasons we’re rooting for Thor: Ragnarok to be great—besides the fact that it just looks charming and cheerful and fun—is that a successful Hollywood blockbuster is likely to give director Taika Waititi carte blanche to follow whatever weird, interesting creative impulses happen to be driving him at any given moment. Like, say, a U.S. television version of his vampire mockumentary What We Do In The Shadows, which he’s reportedly now got in the works.
This is per an interview with Fandango, in which Waititi revealed that the project—distinct from the WWDITS spin-off still being developed back in his native New Zealand, about the bumbling cops who briefly appear in the 2014 film—is currently in the works. (There’s also the proposed werewolf-based sequel film to the original movie, We’re Wolves.) And while it might sound like Waititi is stretching himself a little thin with all these Shadows spin-off projects, we’ll take what we can get when it comes to more of one of the decade’s funniest comedies to date.
