The AFI to honor The Good Place, Wonder Woman, Get Out, a bunch of other stuff you liked
The American Film Institute put out its annual listing of its 10 favorite films and TV shows of the year today, an unranked barometer of what the institute’s juries—made up of influential artists and producers—thought was worthy in a given year. The 20 titles will be honored at the AFI Awards in January, but for now, we can all bask in the knowledge that these film and TV luminaries liked stuff like Get Out, The Big Sick, and Wonder Woman, just like the rest of us
There are one or two mild surprises on the list; Ryan Murphy’s early-in-the-year effort Feud earned itself a spot, and Steven Spielberg’s The Post snuck in under the wire, despite the packed field of great movies that came out this year. Still, it’s a pretty unimpeachable list, mixing indie triumphs like The Florida Project and Lady Bird with the higher end of more traditional blockbuster fare.
