The Daily Show won’t be following shooting at Donald Trump rally

Hey, uh, anything crazy happen in the news this weekend? Usually on Mondays, we can rely on Jon Stewart’s weekly return to The Daily Show to break down whatever’s going on in this Groundhog Day-esque presidential election season. But the show isn’t going to air on Monday following the shooting at Donald Trump’s rally in Butler, Pennsylvania on Saturday.

“The Daily Show will not broadcast on Monday… but we’ll be back up Tuesday through Thursday from our NYC studio,” reads the official statement posted on social media on Sunday. “Our apologies for the inconvenience, but due to logistical issues and the evolving situation in Milwaukee, we need to reschedule our events on the ground in Wisconsin and will look to make those up in the coming weeks.”

The Daily Show was scheduled for a week of shows out of Milwaukee, Wisconsin in order to cover the Republican National Convention, which is taking place there from July 15 to July 18. The satirical news program was going to put on a live show on Thursday for the conclusion of the convention. (A similar plan is in place for the Democratic National Convention in Chicago in August.) According to Variety, all four tapings at the Marcus Performing Arts center were sold out, so there’ll be some disappointed fans in Milwaukee this week.

The viewers at home may be disappointed by the fact that Stewart won’t be on air Monday night to help his audience digest a pretty chaotic, upsetting weekend in politics. The once-and-future host remains one of (if not the most) popular political comics in the U.S., and he’s known for being able to address sobering current events with as much pathos as humor, as in his famous 9/11 monologue. However, the show confirmed on social media that Stewart will do his usual weekly slot on Tuesday, so fans will still get their fill, for whatever it’s worth in our increasingly bizarre current political reality.
