The Heat

Much as Bridesmaids proved to a world who apparently still didn't know this that women are every bit as capable of engaging in raunchy, pre-wedding party hijinks, The Heat aims to show that there are no gender differences when it comes to buddy-cop comedies. Bridesmaids director Paul Feig is the one making that argument again, once more using Melissa McCarthy as his thesis statement: As a slovenly, tough-talking Boston detective (who thankfully doesn't lean on any accents to get that across), McCarthy is every bit the foulmouthed, beer-drinking foil that Sandra Bullock's uptight FBI agent needs to put her in her place, and help her crack a drug-dealing case while eventually showing her how to really live. True, you've seen this formula many, many times before, but probably never with Spanx jokes.
