New Tomb Raider Barbie finally gives the doll a good stealth assassination weapon
Over the decades, Barbie has proven herself to be absurdly competent at nearly every career she pursues, whether it’s video game development or directing A Wrinkle In Time, but all of her various jobs have actually just been preparing Barbie for her greatest challenge yet: surviving on a dangerous island full of supernatural monsters and deadly mercenaries. In other words, as reported by IGN, Barbie just got a job as a Tomb Raider.
To be more specific, Mattel has just announced a Barbie doll based on Alicia Vikander’s Lara Croft from the upcoming Tomb Raider movie reboot, and while she doesn’t come with the bow or assault rifle that Lara gets in the video game that the movie is based on, she doesn’t include her handy climbing axe. It’s unclear if this is the first Barbie accessory specifically dedicated to scaling rocky cliffs and performing brutal stealth assassination moves, but at least Barbie Lara will have something to defend herself with against Island Cult Maniac Ken or Vengeful Japanese Demon Queen Skipper (both sold separately, we assume).
Presales for Tomb Raider Barbie will begin on the Barbie website on February 19, and it’ll be available for $29.99.
