The new trailer for The Punisher is killing dudes and shredding on guitar
By the time Frank Castle, a.k.a. The Punisher, is literally delivering a heavy metal growl-yell and firing a machine gun while Metallica’s “One” matches him with machine-gun riffing, a new tone has been established for the upcoming Marvel Netflix series: This show is going to be metal as fuck, brah.
Despite finally giving us a closer look at some of the key players in the series, we still don’t really know a damn thing about the story. The trailer does make a few things clearer, however. The first minute reminds you that his family was killed, he’s on the warpath, and killing anyone who seems like a bad dude and who can (or can’t, really) provide him with information about the murder of his loved ones. We learn the trail will lead him back to a covert CIA operation, one whose leader—along with Homeland Security and the FBI—want Castle dead. We also get our first real look at Ebon Moss-Bachrach’s David Lieberman, a.k.a. Microchip from the comics, a technology wunderkind and weapons engineer who has historically worked with The Punisher, keeping him supplied with badass gear.
We also get a look at good old Karen Page, teaming up with her frenemy Frank again, and some detectives less than thrilled to realize The Punisher is back. But mostly, to quote Keanu in The Matrix, we get “Guns. Lots of guns.” The unending hail of bullets, however, is still coming at an unknown time, because Netflix keeps doing that goddamn thing where it blurs and spins the release date at the end. Quit it with that shit, Netflix, or we’ll be tempted to take up arms ourselves. Instead, they give us a tagline, “The truth must be taken,” which we guess is step two after The X-Files first taught us it was out there. The Punisher is coming at some damn time in the next few months.
