The robots are ready to take over in the first trailer for season 2 of Westworld

We got a few glimpses of the upcoming second season of HBO’s head-trip sci-fi series Westworld last year, when the network released a teaser trailer showing off a returned Jeffrey Wright, a gun-toting Evan Rachel Wood, and Ed Harris, all cut up and covered in blood. There were no signs of samurai or medieval knights, though, leaving us anxious to see what new, ever-more violent delights the show would be offering up when it came back later this year.

We need wait no longer, happily; HBO showed off a new trailer for the series during the Super Bowl today, and it’s clear that Evan Rachel Wood and the rest of the machines are definitely not fucking around any longer. We’re still not getting any samurai, but Wood’s character here does seem to be setting up that some of the plot in season two will involve the Westworld robots continuing the breakout that began in the first season finale to take over the outside world.

Westworld returns to HBO on April 22.
