The trailer for Dark Souls III’s final expansion takes you down to The Ringed City

This morning, Bandai Namco announced the second of two expansions for Dark Souls III, the latest in FromSoftware’s revered series of gothic fantasy games. Called The Ringed City, there’s a chance this final expansion could be the last bit of Dark Souls we ever get to play, as the developers at From have said they’re moving away from their breakthrough hits. It’s a good thing, then, that it seems poised to send Dark Souls out with a bang and finally answer some of the lingering questions fans have about the nature of the series’ dense, mysterious mythology.

The trailer, which also debuted this morning, depicts what looks to be a city lying beyond the jumbled mess of architecture players see at the end of the main game, as Dark Souls’ universe nears an apocalyptic event and its many lands start to collide. According to a press release from Namco, the expansion “has players chasing after the Slave Knight Gael to the literal end of the world as he searches for the Dark Soul of Humanity,” the nebulous object from which the series gets its title but which has long gone without too much explanation. Perhaps all you Souls scholars will get those answers you’ve been seeking for years when The Ringed City launches on March 28.
