The trailer for Doomed: The Untold Story Of Roger Corman's The Fantastic Four celebrates a fortuitously lost legend

In a certain sense, getting put on a shelf was probably the best thing that could have happened to Oley Sassone's 1994 version of The Fantastic Four. Had the super-low-budget, hastily produced Marvel adaptation received an actual theatrical release, it likely would have been laughed at and promptly forgotten. But due to its distinction as being too rotten for even an unrepentant schlock-peddler like producer Roger Corman to unleash it upon the world, it’s become a thing of legend. That reputation, by the way, is not entirely fair, as viewers will likely discover in the upcoming documentary Doomed!: The Untold Story of Roger Corman's 'The Fantastic Four.'

Sure, the movie is bad. But it's certainly not the worst thing to come out of Corman's studios. (It's probably not even the worst thing to come out of Corman's studios that year.) The fact of the matter is that, because of byzantine legal matters involving copyright hoo-hah, The Fantastic Four only needed to exist. It never needed to be seen. This has always been a bit of a murky subject, but hopefully this new doc—which promises interviews with "every principal cast and crew member"—will clear things up. That is, assuming it gets an actual release.
