It’s another sad day for awards shows. Per The Hollywood Reporter, the MTV Movie & TV Awards won’t air this year because MTV plans to “reimagine” the show’s format for 2025. How MTV will “reimagine” nominating stars and then awarding them Golden Popcorn trophies is beyond us, but this leaves our fractured society without a Best Kiss for 2024. So, seeing as no one in the awards community has stepped up to the task in the few hours since news broke, The A.V. Club is proud to announce that Challengers’ stars Mike Faist and Josh O’Connor have won Best Kiss for their hotel room makeout sesh. Better luck next year, Austin Butler and Stellan Skarsgård.

As we all know, Cheetos presented the 2023 Best Kiss Award. We hope the reimagined form of the MTV Movie & TV Awards rectifies this and finds a more romantic snack item to sponsor its kissing category, preferably one not known for its sticky, orange dust. Maybe churros would like to sponsor the award? There’s dust, but Challengers make a good case for them as a tool for flirtation.

Last year’s Movie & TV Awards ceremony was a victim of the WGA strike, which caused host Drew Barrymore to drop out in solidarity with writers. Nevertheless, she won Best Host during the bizarre broadcast that featured mostly pre-taped segments and video thank-yous from stars. That doesn’t sound good, but when you consider that neither Faist nor O’Connor have thanked anyone at The A.V. Club for their Best Kiss win, it makes us yearn for the gratitude of 2023.

The Hollywood Reporter notes that Barrymore agreed to host in 2024, but it is unclear whether she will return for the reimagined awards next year. Either way, congratulations to this year’s winners.
