This teaser for the new Grinch movie is a mean one
The original animated adaptation of Dr. Seuss’ of How The Grinch Stole Christmas is pretty good, but at only 26 minutes, its plot is way too short to work for a feature-length version. Ron Howard’s awful attempt filled the holes with a romantic subplot, and it looks like the new version from Illumination (the Minions studio) is going to give us a glimpse of the Grinch’s frustrating home life. As shown in this teaser, the Grinch wakes up cranky, drinks his coffee cranky, and then he goes to the grocery store cranky, and then he gets even crankier when a Christmas decoration literally smacks him in the face. The old movie let you know the Grinch was a mean guy with a catchy song and the simple fact that he despised Christmas, but it looks like the new take will spend some more time detailing exactly why and how he’s such an asshole.
Interestingly, this movie is just called The Grinch, rather than How The Grinch Stole Christmas, so maybe his evil scheme won’t involve Christmas at all in this one? Maybe it’ll just be about a green guy who treats everyone like shit and then dies bitter and alone.
Catch it in theaters on November 9, kids!
