Tiffany Haddish is taking over HBO, the world in general
Tiffany Haddish’s star is on the rise, which is great because she’s an unequivocal delight. (If you need further proof of her charm, just check out last night’s episode of Drunk History, embedded below, in which she puts forward her theory that Hitler and Tupac are alive and hanging out together as we speak.) Haddish, whose big breakthrough came with her scene-stealing role in last summer’s Girls Trip, has since picked up a New York Film Critics Circle award, written a best-selling book, got an endorsement deal from Groupon, and hosted Saturday Night Live. Not bad. But 2018 is set to be even bigger for the actress and comedian.
Variety reports that Haddish has signed a two-year first-look deal with HBO; the report doesn’t go into details of the deal, but it’s safe to assume that it probably includes a stand-up special (her debut special, Tiffany Haddish: She Ready!, aired on Showtime last year, and she tours regularly) as well as development on one or more potential series (her production company, also called She Ready, is part of the deal). Outside of that deal, Haddish also has several film and TV projects in the works, including Night School with Kevin Hart, due out in September; The Last OG with Tracy Morgan, debuting on TBS in April; and a trio of films at New Line, Paramount, and Universal. So if you’re not already familiar with this funny lady, the time to correct that is now.
