Trailer for new Netflix series Godless presents an Old West town of only women
Don’t you just hate it when a mine accident kills every single man in your Old West town, leaving the women to fend for themselves? That’s the inciting incident of Godless, the new series from Netflix, and it looks like things go less than smoothly from there.
The first trailer for Godless was really just Jeff Daniels giving a bunch of soulful looks and a voiceover about life and death. This new one is much more thorough, going into the actual plot of the upcoming 6-episode Western from Steven Soderbergh and Scott Frank. Starring Downton Abbey’s Michelle Dockery, the show follows the women of La Belle, a small town whose 83 menfolk are unexpectedly killed one day, forcing the women to fend for themselves. Unfortunately, it’s not long before the town is caught up in some kind of blood feud between murderous gang leader Frank Griffin (Jeff Daniels) and his former member Roy Goode (Unbroken’s Jack O’Connell), whose paths stumble straight into La Belle. From there, the women have to organize to keep these shitty guys from ruining everything. The trailer has some gorgeous shots of the landscape—if nothing else, this series is going to look amazing—and the cast is jam-packed with ace character actors, from Scoot McNairy to Christiane Seidel. Godless doesn’t premiere until November 20, so you’ve still got almost a month to circle the wagons, hunker down, and break out the beef jerky for Ye Olde Binge Watche.
