Trollhunter director André Øvredal to take on Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark
According to Deadline, Trollhunter and The Autopsy Of Jane Doe director André Øvredal has signed on to scar a new generation of people by directing Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark, the movie adaptation of Alvin Schwartz and Stephen Gammell horrifying trilogy of kids books that kids should not read. Guillermo Del Toro was attached to direct early last year, but as with most things that Del Toro is attached to direct, he has since moved on from the project. The most recent draft of the script was written by The Lego Movie’s Kevin and Dan Hageman, and Deadline says it revolves around “a group of young teens who must solve the mystery surrounding sudden and macabre deaths in their small town.”
Barring a Goosebumps-style conceit that involves monsters from the scary stories in the books coming to life, it sounds like that might not have much of a specific connection to the original stories. Unless Øvredal is able to somehow replicate the imagery from the books, of course, which is probably too scary for anyone to even consider anyway.
