Bravo has another major Vanderpump break-up on its hands

While it's not quite Scandoval levels (yet), The Valley stars Jax Taylor and Brittany Cartwright are apparently splitting up

While we can probably never hope to live again in an era as rich with subtext, meaning, and sheer existential beauty as the heart of Vanderpump Rules“Scandoval” era, we are moved to note tonight that another Bravo-branded marriage is now apparently in serious danger of dissolving, right before a reality show heavily featuring said marriage is set to air. Specifically, Jax Taylor and Brittany Cartwright, who were literally married on Bravo, after being cast members for several years on Vanderpump, are apparently splitting up. This may have some slight impact on the rollout of their new reality series The Valley, which is, in part, about the two of them making it work as affluent suburban parents, so, y’know, whoops.

Taylor and Cartwright rolled out the news in an unexpected-for-Bravo understated way, with Cartwright breaking the news (alone) on the couple’s shared podcast, announcing that she’d moved into a separate home after a very “rough year” between the two of them. And while we’re sure all the gory details will come out in confessionals, talking heads, and, if Vanderpump is anything to go off of, court testimony, the whole thing is still likely to cast a pall over The Valley’s debut. (Obviously, shows like this thrive on drama, but “high-profile break-up” doesn’t exactly jibe with the “We’re all adults making it work!” vibe the show’s marketing has been going for so far.)

The new series is set to air this spring, after this season of Vanderpump wraps, and was serving, at least partially, as part of the slow Bravo re-launch of Taylor, Cartwright, and long-time friend(?) Kristen Doute, all of whom disappeared from Vanderpump land after the summer of 2020, amidst accusations of racist behavior against Taylor and Doute.
