Victoria Beckham squashes Spice Girls tour hopes

Hope for a Spice Girls reunion tour began to stir anew last week thanks to TMZ, which reported that all five members—Melanie C, Mel B, Geri Horner (née Halliwell), Victoria Beckham, and Emma Bunton—had met up with their former manager, Simon Fuller, to plot Spice World domination once more. The reunited pop group was said to be reuniting in the U.K. (with all their old moves but no new tunes) before going Stateside. But you should probably hold off on putting on that Union Jack tube dress, because Beckham has just put a damper on the purported revival.

When British Vogue asked the erstwhile Posh Spice if she planned to join her former bandmates on the road, her response was basically ziga-zig-nah. “I’m not going on tour. The girls aren’t going on tour,” Beckham told the publication while at New York Fashion Week, where she’s showing a fall/winter preview of her Victoria Beckham Official collection. She reframed the context of the photo of the fivesome that circulated last week, saying “It was so great to see the girls. We had such a fun lunch. It was really, really, really lovely.”

But, though Beckham disputed the notion that that Instagram post was proof of a Spice Girls reunion, it sounds like there are still plans for girl-powered shenanigans and merchandising: “There’s something so strong in the message of what the Spice Girls stood for. What is that in the future? What does that look like?,” Beckham told the publication. “We were just bouncing ideas around. Brainstorming.”
