Wax Trax! The Documentary

The industrial scene is feeling contemplative these days, if a spate of releases is any indication. Writer S. Alexander Reed looked back in Assimilate: A Critical History Of Industrial Music, released in June; Al Jourgensen released his memoir, Ministry: The Lost Gospels According To Al Jourgensen last month, and now comes word of a documentary about Chicago’s Wax Trax! Records, ground zero for the genre, due out sometime in 2014 (though maybe later). The film’s being made in conjunction with Julia Nash, daughter of Wax Trax! co-founder Jim Nash, but it’s “still in the very early stages of the film,” according to Regressive Film’s Joe Losurdo (who also made the Chicago punk documentary You Weren’t There). In the meantime, the company has assembled this trailer, which features snippets of interviews with Ministry’s Paul Barker and Chris Connelly, Ministry associate Sean Joyce, Jello Biafra, and plenty of grainy footage of the late, lamented Wax Trax! record store.
