What are you playing this Thanksgiving weekend?

Every Friday, A.V. Club staffers kick off our weekly open thread for the discussion of gaming plans and recent gaming glories, but of course, the real action is down in the comments, where we invite you to answer our eternal question: What Are You Playing This Weekend?

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim for Switch

It’s Thanksgiving week here in the States, which means we’re taking off a little bit early and dropping a special mid-week edition of What Are You Playing This Weekend? With all the widely encouraged overeating and sitting around, this is usually one of the best weekends of the year for gaming, and with the dozens of great games 2017 has bestowed upon us, this has to be one of the best ever. And for all you travelers out there, the Nintendo Switch is sweetening the deal even further. It might not have the battery power to survive a cross-country flight (you did buy an external battery, didn’t you?) but the thing is brimming with deep, delightful games to help you get through it.

I’ll definitely be relying on mine while I jet away, and right now, I’m planning to dive back into the winteriest game of them all: The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. Yes, I’ve already sunk 121 hours (paltry, I know) into the PC version, but now that Bethesda’s mega-popular fantasy RPG is on the Switch, I can take my spider stabbing and obsessive cheese-wheel collecting on the go. I have to admit, though, the idea of grinding my way through that game from the very beginning again—and without the chicanery of mods and console commands—is pretty daunting. But all reports seem to indicate this is a solid new version of Skyrim and the game remains as absorbing as ever. Here’s to hoping!

And before I go, I want to take a second, here on this Thanksgiving eve, to say just how damn thankful I am for each and every one of you. Thank you so much for supporting Gameological over the years and giving me and all the amazing writers who’ve graced these pages a reason to keep pouring our hearts out. And of course, thank you for being the best damn community there is. We’ll see you next week.
