Why Stop Now
Delving into a life of crime and racing against the clock didn't exactly yield big returns for Jesse Eisenberg on 30 Minutes Or Less, but the new, superficially similar Why Stop Now seems to be going for a more sentimental coming-of-age story—one that just happens to involve drug trafficking and Tracy Morgan being Tracy Morgan. Eisenberg plays a piano prodigy whose big audition day is trainwrecked by his pill-popping mom (Melissa Leo), whose inability to get into rehab without first copping some Oxycontin leads both of them to Morgan's door and to unexpected, quirky, road-trip adventure. The Sundance-screened comedy definitely feels like a gentler, more sun-dappled version of the old "into the night" premise, and it seems like a given that Eisenberg—along with nailing his audition (and possibly his love interest) while totally high—will gain some hard-bitten wisdom on manning up from Morgan's drug dealer character, Sprinkles, as well as a new appreciation for his mom. But if you've ever wondered what taking a long, contrived car ride with Jesse Eisenberg, Melissa Leo, and Tracy Morgan would feel like, this is as close as you'll probably get.
