Ted Danson and Woody Harrelson are making a podcast that’s not really about Cheers

Despite being titled Where Everybody Knows Your Name, Woody Harrelson and Ted Danson's podcast is mostly just them shooting the shit

The “television stars rewatching their own show” podcast market is absolutely flooded right now. This Is Us finished airing two years ago, and it already has a rewatch pod! Luckily, Ted Danson and Woody Harrelson are not contributing to this oversaturated economy, despite being co-stars on Cheers and launching a Sirius XM podcast on June 12 called Where Everybody Knows Your Name. Instead, “While listeners can expect some fond reminiscences of their time on Cheers, the show will mostly serve as a freewheeling exchange of laughter and wisdom as the charismatic duo reconnect both with each other and with the talented friends they’ve made throughout their incredible careers,” according to a synopsis.

Now, the official podcast title only promises that Harrelson will be around “sometimes,” and it’s unclear from the trailer (which you can listen to here) how much of that is a goof and how much is a genuine disclaimer of what you can expect. However, you can expect conversations with Eric Andre, Will Arnett, Kristen Bell, Laura Dern, Jane Fonda, Simu Liu, Megan Mullally, Nick Offerman, Martin Short, Mary Steenburgen, Flea, and Conan O’Brien (whose company Team Coco produces the pod). “There’s many more to come, and it’s always a great time when Woody drops in,” Danson narrates.

“Though I’ve always dreaded small talk at a cocktail party, I’ve found that it is a genuine privilege to sit down with someone for a deep, uninterrupted conversation. With this podcast, we’ll do just that,” Danson says in a statement about the pod. “And that I get to do it with Woody, my dear friend of many decades, is the cherry on top of the sundae. Each week, we’ll reflect on our own friendship and careers, and get to the core of the special guests who join us. I can’t wait for you to listen.”

His erstwhile co-host Harrelson adds: “The best part about doing this podcast is that it’s given me an excuse to hang out with Ted. Sure we’ll talk with interesting guests, and sure we’ll share some laughs along the way, but the biggest win will be rekindling our romance, I mean friendship, after all this time. And I’m glad listeners will be able to join us for that.” Well—sometimes, at least.
