The signs of our future were there all along, if we only had the power to see. “Our whole universe was in a hot, dense state, then nearly fourteen billion years ago expansion started, wait.” And sure, you could argue that the Barenaked Ladies were actually singing about the birth of the entire known universe, but they might as well have been singing about the birth of the continuously evolving Young Sheldon universe, which all started—as the prophecy foretold—with The Big Bang (Theory).

They tried to stop dear young Sheldon from aging by canceling his show, but you can never truly halt the flow of progress or time. The Cooper family will officially return for yet another spinoff, per an official order from CBS (via Variety). No, it’s not just The Big Bang Theory 2.0, although at some point Iain Armitage’s young Sheldon has to catch up to Jim Parsons’ old (middle?) Sheldon, wrecking that particular canon and setting off a whole host of other time-travel paradoxes that would probably cause Sheldons both young and old to have a full-blown breakdown in the process. We hope you know what you’re dealing with, CBS!

Anyway, the new spinoff (title TBD) will focus on Sheldon’s older brother Georgie (Montana Jordan) and his wife, Mandy (Emily Osment), a couple with a 12-year age gap who just gave birth to their first child. News of the spinoff from producers Chuck Lorre, Steven Molaro, and Steve Holland was originally reported back in January, but now the multi-camera sitcom is actually official. “It has been a privilege to spend the last seven years with Sheldon and the Cooper family and now this wonderful journey will continue with Georgie and Mandy,” said CBS Entertainment president Amy Reisenbach in a statement. “We eagerly look forward to the next chapter in this beloved universe.”

In other, totally unrelated news, Deadline reported back in January that for the first time ever, CBS wouldn’t be ordering a single new pilot this season. Guess we’d all better start caring about Cooper cousins, aunts, and nephews by marriage if we have any interest in sticking around with this particular network.
